The Skype Call Recorder from http://atdot.ch/scr/ uses the native Skype API to record calls to wav, mp3, or ogg format. It runs in the system tray and communicates directly with the Skype process.
Skype 2 frequently crashes and hangs on Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal if PulseAudio is installed. The solution is to remove PulseAudio and replace it with the packages in this PPA:
