Introduction

This archive contains updated builds of FFMPEG, Xine, Mplayer, and VLC. Other packages will follow.

VLC has been compiled with VA-API support. To enable it, got Preferences => Video => check the "Accelerated Video Output" box.

Mplayer has also been compiled with VA-API support. To enable it, run "mplayer -vo vaapi -va vaapi <movie>" or, in Smplayer, change the video output driver to vaapi, and then in Advanced => Extra Options for Mplayer enter "-va vaapi".

For FGLRX users, you must install the proprietary driver packages here: http://www.splitted-desktop.com/~gbeauchesne/xvba-video/

Poulsbo users can install the drivers from here: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mobile/+archive/ppa
or here: https://launchpad.net/~gma500/+archive/ppa

The Via proprietary driver here: http://www.s3graphics.com/en/index.aspx

Intel GMA4500 users have access to the Intel VA-API driver in the libva package. However, you will need to build your own kernel patched with the vaapi Intel patches.

In both VLC and Mplayer's case, Nvidia users must manually install the vdpau-video package.

It is likely that with the update of FFMPEG, changing the SONAME of Libavutil from 49 to 50, and Libavfilter from 0 to 1, this will break some of the Karmic packages that use FFMPEG if they have not been refreshed against the packages in this archive. However, Xine, VLC, Mplayer, and Gstreamer have been refreshed in this archive.
