Please add the ability to change the usplash themes and grub themes.
Also the ability to resize left nav. menu would be nice.
And the Ok and Quit buttons needs to be Apply and Quit.

Starting Apps with Root rights should look like “normal” apps
sudo ln -s ~/.themes/* /usr/share/themes
sudo ln -s ~/.icons/* /usr/share/icons
—-
give nautilus a background
/apps/nautilus/preferences/background_set –>true
/apps/nautilus/preferences/background_filename — path to image
—-
nautilus quickinfo
apps >> nautilus >> icon_view
den Wert von “captions” editieren.
change none to bottom, size on top

thanks in advance

Hi,
nice work. Thanks
I think you should really consider to get Ubuntu Tweak included in Ubuntus official repositories. Could help a lot of beginners. If installed by default I think Ubuntu can really benefit from your work.
cheers

Hi,
thanks for your great tool! It would be very useful if you can add something to change the background color after you’ve logged in. Now I can choose the splash-image, but it would be fine if I can also change the background color of them.
Workaround for coding:
1) sudo gedit /etc/gdm/PreSession/Default
2) search for “#dab082″ (standard ubuntu brown)
Thanks a lot!

Hi.
Thank you for this user friendly tool.
I have some feature suggestions for your future development.
- A short description on mouseover with each button
- Add “keywords” to your website! I couldn’t find it when searching for tweak Ubuntu, but Ubuntu tweak worked.
And here is some for boosting the performance:
- Swap memory from hard disk to RAM (see the link above)
- Freeing up more memory (see the link above)
- Concurrent Booting (see the link above)
- Scripted installation of fonts (http://www.zolved.com/synapse/view_content/28550/How_to_Install_Fonts_on_Ubuntu)
Good luck with this wonderful project.

In the system information, it lists your hostname - would be nice if you could change it there too.
Right now, you have to go to system - administration - network - general to change it.

Very nice app.
USER INTERACTION SUGGESTION: If the parent menu has no items, don’t ask the user to select a child but go directly to the first child. You can also choose to put some of the generic tweaks in the parent menu option, removing the child containing these options. For instance, there’s no need for a child in Security; since there’s only one, you can put those tweaks directly under Security.

Can you please set this up for translation in Launchpad? A great tool for beginners (and others) should be localized.
Sorry if this has been asked before!
Also, add a button to CCSM (if installed) or Visual effects in the CF section.
On a broader note, I’d like to say that this kind of app should be bigger, including most settings that can be tweaked, with regards to window manager, desktop environment, etc (i.e. all visible, non application-specific tweaks)
For starters, implementing BUM would be nice.

A way to have a different icon set on each workspace would be great.
Ex.
Workspace1- office tools
Workspace2- internet shortcuts
and so on…
(currently I heard that there is a workaround to have this, but its very complicated, especially for newbies like myself)
Perhaps it would be possible to make it store content of each workspace in separate folder like /home/user/desktop/1
/home/user/desktop/2
etc
I don’t know if its possible, but it would be a great feature

I recommend input device settings. On a default ubuntu install, my mouse’s forward and back buttons were nonfunctional. I’d like a way to be able to config this without messing with xorg.conf.
Then some of my keyboard’s shortcuts that I had set via preferences>keyboard shortcuts don’t seem to work (lock screens shortcut never does), but this is more something for ubuntu itself to fix, probably. But mostly the mouse input config.

I’d like to see a graphical way to create a soundrc file, so users could get stereo sound through all speakers of a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system
By Ubuntu4fun on Feb 24, 2008 | Reply
In my opinion very useful feature would be ability to edit bootloader (GRUB) and setting the order of booting the systems installed.
Is there any chance to implement this feature in Ubuntu Tweak?
By Vadi on Feb 29, 2008 | Reply
@ above: I don’t think that’s needed, especially when a program that’s designed for everything to do with grub/usplash already exists already: http://getdeb.net/app/Startup+Manager
I’d like to see Ubuntu Tweak do some “performance” tweaking too, also. A big one is to detect if the swap partition is mounted or no.

I’ve been using Ubuntu Tweak for a few weeks now, and it’s been a great program so far.
I just Googled for “ubuntu tweak” today, to put onto a friends PC, and Google gave me a stopbadware.org “malware warning” page page instead, indicating that ubuntu-tweak.com may harm your computer, in the end I had to come to this site by typing the address manually.
I knew this couldn’t be right, you may wish to check this out, and get the software cleared by Google.

Hi, Robvdl, Many thanks to you!!!
I don’t know that this site has been marked a harmful site by Google.
I’m now dealing with this problem. I think it’s a mistake. There’s no harmful information here.

Hello,
I’ve run into a small issue lately. It would might be good to have in Ubuntu Tweak an option to enable Num Lock after starting a session. Current solution in Ubuntu is fine for me [you are to do it only once], but for a beginner, poking in terminal because of such a detail is a bit annoying.

I think I’ve found a bug. If I use Ubuntu Tweak on Hardy, I lose the ability to change desktop wallpaper.
All I did with Ubuntu Tweak was hide desktop icons. Once only, when I unhid them, I got back the ability to change wallpaper but then I hid icons again and lost that ability again. I have not been able to repeat that and get wallpaper changing back so far.
Deleting .gconf fixes the problem.
